People, Programs, and Places The Admissions Process What is an Independent School?

We are pleased that you are considering Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s School for your child. The admissions committee looks for highly motivated students who want to be challenged academically and will thrive in an atmosphere of respect and concern for the individual. Here is a brief summary of our application process:

  1. Submit the completed application form and a non-refundable $50.00 application fee to the admissions office. Applications should be submitted by March 1. Later applications are accepted if vacancies exist.
  2. Arrange for two of the applicant’s teachers or, if the child is of preschool age and has not attended school, persons who know the applicant well to complete the recommendation forms and return them to the admissions office.
  3. If applicable, request the current school to forward copies of the applicant’s academic records to the admissions office. The record request card, when signed by a parent, authorizes the release of these records to RHSM.

Tuition, Financial Aid, and Scholarships
The most current tuition schedule is included with the application forms. The basic tuition for the Lower School includes textbooks, field trips and supplies. Middle and Upper School students pay a bundled billing fee that includes textbooks, yearbooks, and lab fees, as well as class retreats, Interim, and ArtStart.

Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s School offers a program of need-based financial assistance to families of students in grades one through twelve. Approximately 18% of the student body currently receives some degree of financial aid. Although each application is individually reviewed and aid is awarded by the financial aid committee, the services of the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) are used for the computation and evaluation of need.

To apply, please indicate your intention on the application or contact the admissions office and the materials will be sent to you. Financial aid applications should be submitted by March 1.

Admissions Decisions
Once all application materials have been received and the applicant tested, the applicant’s file will be reviewed by the admission committee. During the spring, the committee meets regularly to review applications for fall enrollment, and it meets as needed at other times during the year. A letter will advise parents of the committee’s decisions.

You will want to visit the school prior to beginning the formal application process. Please call the admissions office at the appropriate campus to make an appointment.
