The central curriculum of the Lower School
takes place in each of the classrooms. This core curriculum
is taught by the classroom teachers and includes mathematics,
science, language and literacy, and social studies.
Classroom teachers also work closely with specialty
teachers to integrate curriculum and enrich the learning
for children (please see specialty curriculum link).
The science, computer, and library teachers meet on
a regular basis with the grade level teams to design
and implement well-planned curriculum. That “teamed”
instruction then takes place in both the classroom and
in each of those specialty classes.

Classroom teachers also work closely with the school
counselor to teach the school-adopted program, Second
Step. This is a program designed to promote personal
and social development by helping young people develop
empathy, anger management and problem-solving skills,
and manage bullying-type situations. Included in the
classroom curriculum are multiple field trips and field
studies, an artist in residence program, winter sports,
and other special events.
